CHICORY (CICHORIUM INTYBUS) Chicory is  warm and humid, and there is in its nature a striving for stately appearance; whoever carries it with them draws people's hatred. Against CHEST PAIN and HOARSENESS , make a brew of chicory and equal parts of the greater burdock ( Arctium lappa ), boiled in pure wine , and take it frequently after meals and at night.  If you suffer from INDIGESTION , take chicory and large burdock, dry them in the sun or on a hot brick, add the third part (of the individual plant) crystallised or dried salt. MILKWEED (EUPHORBIA PEPLUS) Milkweed is warm and  dry and useful for many things.  Boiled with  wine and honey it gets rid of any type of GOUT . To facilitate this, the beverage described above is taken regularly with a meal and additionally during the night. Moreover, a poultice  made from the above ingredients may be applied directly on the stomach . The following remedy clears the CHEST  and aids the LARYNX  (voice box):  Equal parts of dried powdered  liquorice and finely ground wild hop are mixed with some dry salt . CELERY (APIUM GRAVEOLENS) Celery is warm , naturally more cheerful than dry , and very juicy; it is not  healthy when eaten raw because it produces bad juices . Its effects unsettle the mind . Against WATERING EYES , crush celery with a little fennel, add the white of the egg to the juice and tie it over the eyes at night with a bandage.  Against severe GOUT PAIN , however, grind dried celery, plus the third part common rue , nutmeg ,  cloves and  rockfoils (saxifraga)  - always a little less of each, and take this powder on an empty  stomach as well as after meals. The water mint is warm , but a little bit  cold and as a food neither  useful nor harmful to humans. Against  STOMACH DISTURBANCES  it is eaten raw or cooked as puree or in a drink . It is also used against  LUNG COMPLAINTS  and  COUGHS.
